A Blossom Fell

A pink petal fell.

The yielding earth received her.

We will not forget.

A Haiku

The distant mountains,

bright against the gray shadows.

Reflect light like life.

Summer’s Day Break

A dream had wakened me.

Thoughts of yesterday and long ago,

jumble of memories, haunting scenes.

Sleep fled to leave me wide eyed.

I rose and book in hand,

shuffled into the living room to read.

So welcome is the early break of day.

Gray light but full of summer promises,

of welcome heat and lazy days of play.

Memories of bike rides and tennis,

sailing and camping trips,

the very essence of holidays.

How magic are those scenes –

of long years ago, as if only yesterdays,

so bright in the gray hours of dawn.

The gardens colours are muted

and the trees stand tall and black

against the sky, bleak in early day.

The peace is soothing and in the east

faint tinges of pink in distant clouds,

seduce me from my waiting book.

The cat is weaving her tail through my legs.

The dog, head on one side, stares at me.

The trees nod and I understand them.

The book nags but the day dawns

and with its advent, holds me in awe,

the wonder of the new day.

This timeless miracle keeps me still.

I am content to watch a day be born.

A blazing reflection of eternity!

Smiles

Eyes smile and lips part.

Teeth gleam in a happy face.

Laughter is catching.
