Maureen Brady

She arrived in a cloud of dogs,

their joys reflected in her eyes.

Their joy in being alive

her joy in giving –

them yet another life!

She said, “Shadow needs a new home.”

We said. “ We are not quite ready.”

She said, “ Take her for the weekend

to see if she could fit into your lives.”

How could we refuse?

Shadow is, we think,

a gray Border Collie plus

some other secret ingredient.

Full of the joy of life

with another chance to Be!

Another chance to give,

another chance to teach,

another chance to learn,

another chance to be all that –

a dog can be.

An example of, devotion and fun,

willful, graceful, naughty, greedy,

strong, soft, fast, nosey, joyous, noisy,

bouncy, lazy, sad, dejected or sleepy.

alive with love!

Thank you Maureen!

Blue Orb

An envelope that cloaks us all,

gives us life, holds us safe;

the air we breathe, our precious shield.

While like a mirror, of our lives,

that other orb, that is the eye,

reflects the beauty of our home.

As our world, in swirls of blue,

sails the void of time and space.

Alcatraz

A cold and dreary place

of peeling paint,

cracked floors,

the whisper of dust gathering

and dark secrets.

Damp wind through cracked windows,

the cries of anguished souls

echoing through a forest of bars.

Squish

Have you ever had a slug

go squish between your toes,

or felt a shell go crunch under your shoe.?

Please look a little bit ahead

and be more careful where you tread,

which may reduce the damage you can do.

For after all even a slug

has reasons of his own to live

and snails though slow may try to go

fast as their burdens will allow.
