Two Haikus

Bougainvillea.

Brilliant on an old wall.

A pleasure to all.

Winter is not sad.

Soon spring will bring bright flowers.

Hold them in your heart.

Two Haiku for Uki and John Miller at the time of receiving Uki’s letter about the return  of her OT cancer. We feel that it is a letter of farewell. Also see Brave bamboo.

Ancient, New

Two Loons silver sea.

Speckled as a pebble beach.

Ancient bird, fresh scene.

A Haiku

Parents share good times.

Summer winds bring warm moments.

A gift to long remember.

Booted Out

I used to be a wanderer

around the bay and world.

My adventurers were many

and our sails were seldom furled.

But then my boot tops faltered.

Creased and scared,

they leaked they smelt.

My beautiful colour faded

and my plastic commenced to melt.

So my Alpha trimmed my uppers

I became sea shoes instead,

But still I wandered sea lanes

and enjoyed the life I lead.

My days were full my nights a whirl

I kissed sweet shores of sand

And fondly remember a pretty girl

Who danced in a distant land.

David Garlick, Quadra Island, August, 2005

The retirement of a pair of round the world traveled sea boots.
